Message from the Founder

I grew up in Portland, and basketball gave me a language before I had the words. At Madison High School I graduated as the all-time leading scorer, earned All-State honors, and was lucky enough to be named a McDonald's All-American Nominee.
Northwest Nazarene University gave me four years of NCAA Division II basketball in the GNAC, a B.A. in Psychology, a spot on the program's all-time Top-50 scoring list, and the discipline that carried me into a professional career across five countries — Canada, Mexico, Malaysia, the United States, and most meaningfully Australia, where I suited up for the East Perth Eagles, a program with an SBL Championship pedigree.
International basketball changed me. It stripped the game down to its essentials: effort, IQ, accountability, and the humility to learn from every teammate and every coach, in every language.
I founded Golden Basketball Academy to bring all of that back home to Portland. Every kid who walks into our gym deserves elite coaching, academic support, and a mentor who cares about their jump shot and their grades. This Case Statement is our promise to deliver it.
— Coach Anthony Golden
Mission Statement
To develop confident, accountable student-athletes who lead with humility, compete with relentless effort, and carry what they learn on the court into every part of their lives.
Founding Purpose
Too many talented young players in Portland lack access to high-level coaching, structured development, and mentors who understand the full journey of a student-athlete. Golden Basketball Academy exists to close that gap.
We combine elite skill training, academic support, and leadership development into a single, integrated program — regardless of a family's ability to pay. Need-based scholarships ensure our best work reaches the players who need it most.
The Golden Journey
The Golden Journey is our year-round development pathway, built around the three pillars that define every Golden Basketball Academy athlete: Passion, Integrity, and Hard Work. We use the discipline of basketball to grow the whole player — on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
Love the game and love the work. We develop players who chase the gym — not because they have to, but because they can't help it.
How you do one thing is how you do everything. On time, eyes up, honest effort — on the court, in school, and at home.
No shortcuts. Every drill, every rep, every conditioning set. The athletes who outwork the room earn the floor — and earn the future.
"Players can change a game. Golden athletes change their community." — Coach Anthony Golden
Lil' Dribblers — The Entry Point

Lil' Dribblers is the front door to Golden Basketball Academy and the level check for everything that follows. Built for ages 3–7, it weaves basketball fundamentals together with a life-skill of the week — listening, effort, teamwork, confidence — in 45-minute sessions capped at 8–10 players per coach.
Three tiers (Intro, Core, All-Access) let families start where they're ready and graduate naturally into the Golden Path development pipeline. Sibling discounts and reserved scholarship spots are part of the program by design — no child is priced out of the first court they fall in love with.
Golden Path — The Player Development Pipeline

Golden Path is the long-term player development pipeline at Golden Basketball Academy — the through-line that carries an athlete from Lil' Dribblers all the way to the high school varsity floor and, for those who earn it, the college recruiting stage.
Built on Coach Golden's experience playing and coaching across five countries, Golden Path blends the Skills Academy (year-round small-group training), Elite Travel Teams (AAU and tournament competition across the Pacific Northwest), and seasonal Break & Summer Clinics into one continuous arc. Every athlete is met where they are and given a clear next step.
Golden Path players are pushed to compete at the highest level they're ready for, but always inside the Golden value system — Passion, Integrity, Hard Work. They are strongly encouraged, though not required, to engage with The Golden Journey and Golden Prep alongside their development.
Golden Prep — College Prep & Mentorship
Golden Prep is Golden Basketball Academy's year-round college preparation and mentorship program — built to make sure our student-athletes are as prepared for the classroom and the recruiting process as they are for the floor.
The program centers on the work that actually moves the needle for college-bound athletes: structured study hall, GPA monitoring, SAT and ACT prep, NCAA eligibility guidance, application and essay support, and highlight-film and recruiting strategy.
Every Golden Prep student is paired with mentors from Coach Golden's network of former collegiate and professional athletes — people who have walked the recruiting path themselves. Golden Prep is open to any student-athlete in the Portland community; enrollment in Golden Path or The Golden Journey is not required.

Home Court — Solo Session & Peer Accountability
Beyond our group programs, Home Court is where the individual work happens. Two formats, one standard.
One-on-one, position-specific work directly with Coach Golden. Every rep is personalized — built around the athlete's game, goals, and the gaps between where they are and where they want to be.
Small groups that compete, push, and pull each other forward. Teammates hold teammates to a standard — and that's where confidence is built, one rep at a time.
Coach's Consultation — Programs & Institutions
Golden Basketball Academy's reach extends beyond individual athletes. Coach Golden consults directly with schools, club programs, AAU organizations, churches, and city leagues — partnering with leadership and coaching staffs to install culture, curriculum, and the three pillars of Passion, Integrity, and Hard Work.
Engagements range from single-session culture audits to multi-season program builds. Wherever a program needs development, GBA brings the same standard we hold ourselves to in our own gym.
The GBA Campus — Homecourt
A permanent physical space is the most vital piece of the GBA vision. Homecourt will house our administrative team and every program we run — Lil' Dribblers, The Golden Journey, Golden Path, and Golden Prep — under one roof in Portland.
The campus will include full-size courts, strength and conditioning facilities, classrooms and tutoring rooms, a film room, and community gathering spaces open to families and partner organizations.
