Case Statement
Leadership + Performance. A blueprint for empowering Portland's student-athletes through the discipline of basketball.
Message from the Founder

I grew up in Portland, and basketball gave me a language before I had the words. At Madison High School I graduated as the all-time leading scorer, earned All-State honors, and was lucky enough to be named a McDonald's All-American Nominee.
Northwest Nazarene University gave me four years of NCAA Division II basketball in the GNAC, a B.A. in Psychology, a spot on the program's all-time Top-50 scoring list, and the discipline that carried me into a professional career across five countries — Canada, Mexico, Malaysia, the United States, and most meaningfully Australia, where I suited up for the East Perth Eagles, a program with an SBL Championship pedigree.
International basketball changed me. It stripped the game down to its essentials: effort, IQ, accountability, and the humility to learn from every teammate and every coach, in every language.
I founded Golden Basketball Academy to bring all of that back home to Portland. Every kid who walks into our gym deserves elite coaching, academic support, and a mentor who cares about their jump shot and their grades. This Case Statement is our promise to deliver it.
— Coach Anthony Golden
Mission Statement
To develop confident, accountable student-athletes who lead with humility, compete with relentless effort, and carry what they learn on the court into every part of their lives.
Founding Purpose
Too many talented young players in Portland lack access to high-level coaching, structured development, and mentors who understand the full journey of a student-athlete. Golden Basketball Academy exists to close that gap.
We combine elite skill training, academic support, and leadership development into a single, integrated program — regardless of a family's ability to pay. Need-based scholarships ensure our best work reaches the players who need it most.
The Leadership Journey
The Leadership Journey is our three-tier, year-round development program that uses the discipline of basketball to build athletic vigor, emotional intelligence, and real-world leadership skills.
Self-awareness, work ethic, and the fundamentals of being a coachable teammate.
Identity, voice, and accountability — finding the leader inside yourself.
Applied leadership: mentoring teammates, community impact, and life beyond the game.
"Players can change a game. Leaders change their community." — Golden Basketball Academy
CORE — Elite Competition

CORE is our competitive pathway: select teams and league play at the highest levels of youth basketball in the Pacific Northwest.
CORE athletes are pushed to compete, but always within the value system of the Academy. Participants are strongly encouraged — though not required — to engage with The Leadership Journey and PIVOT alongside their team commitments.
PIVOT — Academic Success
PIVOT is a year-round academic program designed to prepare student-athletes — of any sport, any age before college — for success in higher education.
Tutoring, study hall, college-prep workshops, and mentorship with former collegiate and professional athletes. PIVOT is open to any student-athlete; enrollment in other GBA pillars is not required.

The GBA Campus — Homecourt
A permanent physical space is the most vital piece of the GBA vision. Homecourt will house our administrative team and every program we run — The Leadership Journey, PIVOT, and CORE — under one roof in Portland.
The campus will include full-size courts, strength and conditioning facilities, classrooms and tutoring rooms, a film room, and community gathering spaces open to families and partner organizations.
